  80.    FM Toolbar is an extender of File Manager for Microsoft(R)
  81.    Windows(tm) 3.1, 3.11, and Windows for Workgroups(tm) 3.11.

  83.    Chaosoft Toolbar is an attractive alternative to the native
  84.    Windows toolbar. Fully user- customizable, it provides about
  85.    twice as many buttons, support for MS Tools, handy 'tooltips'
  86.    for novice users (a'la toolbar for Word and Excel).

  147. can upgrade to the current version FREE. To register your copy of
  148. FM Toolbar, use the same Registration Code as you used for Ver 1.0

  150. 1.3 How to use the documentation
  151. --------------------------------

  153. Complete information about FM Toolbar, including the installation
  154. procedure, how to get updates, how to register your copy,
  155. troubleshooting hints, answers to frequently asked questions,
  156. etc., is available in Windows Help format, file FMTB.HLP.
  157.  
  158. If you have already installed FM Toolbar, access the information
  159. by choosing Toolbar | Help from File Manager menu.
  160.  
  161. Or, double click the 'FM Toolbar Help' icon in the 'FMToolbar'
  162. program group created after automatic installation.
  163.  
  164. Or, choose command 'Run' from Program Manager or File Manager main
  165. menu, and enter the full name (including complete path) of the
  166. FMTB.HLP file. For example, if you have placed the FM Toolbar
  167. files into directory C:\TEMP on your hard disk, enter the following
  168. string in the 'Run' dialog box:

  172. and click OK button.

  174. Yet another way to view the file is to open the directory window
  175. with the File Manager and double click filename FMTB.HLP with the
  176. mouse.

  203. Sometimes when you start File Manager, the registration reminder
  204. screen is displayed. This is the ONLY difference between
  205. registered and unregistered versions of the FM Toolbar (unless
  206. you've obtained a newer version of the software from us, of
  207. course). When you register FM Toolbar, we provide you with a
  208. unique registration code which can be used to suppress the
  209. registration reminder screen.

  232. REGISTERING FM Toolbar

  234. You may register your copy of FM Toolbar with a check or
  235. Eurocheck, money order, cash, etc.

  237. Major credit cards accepted.

  239. You may also register via CompuServe (GO SWREG, ID#2950).

  241. 'Bill me later' payment option is also available.

  243. To register, please choose 'Register...' from the 'Toolbar'
  244. submenu of File Manager and follow instructions. Alternatively,
  245. you may run REGISTER.EXE, supplied with the package, with the same
  246. effect. This program will lead you through the registration
  247. process and print out the order form for you!

  249. To register under site license arrangement, please use an order
  250. form from the REGISTER.TXT file. The latter contains also an order
  251. form for a disk with the latest version of the software.

  272. Unlike most other Windows applications, FM Toolbar is not a
  273. stand-alone program; there is no special executable file you would
  274. run to start the FM Toolbar. To use FM Toolbar, all you need is to
  275. properly install it, and it will run automatically every time you
  276. run File Manager.
  277.  
  278. 2.1. Using Setup utility
  279. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  280. FM Toolbar comes with convenient and flexible SETUP utility. Use
  281. SETUP if you want to temporarily activate/deactivate the software
  282. or install it onto your hard disk or network drive for permament
  283. use.
  284.  
  285. 2.1.1. HOW TO QUICKLY TRY OUT THE SOFTWARE
  286. ------------------------------------------
  287.  
  288. If you obtained FM Toolbar on a diskette or CD-ROM and
  289. want to take a look at the utility without installing it onto
  290. your hard disk, run SETUP.EXE from the FM Toolbar directory on the
  291. diskette or CD-ROM and choose the 'Activate' button when prompted.
  292.  
  293.   - to run SETUP.EXE, choose File | Run from main menu of Program
  294.     Manager or File Manager and type into the 'Run' dialog box:
  295.  
  296.         A:\TOOLBAR\SETUP.EXE
  297.  
  298.     (assuming that the diskette is inserted into the 'A' floppy
  299.     drive)
  300.  
  301. After that, run File Manager. You should see a new item in the
  302. main menu, Toolbar (If there is no such an item, FM Toolbar has
  303. not been activated; see information below in this file for
  304. possible reasons.) Of course, be sure that the diskette or CD with
  305. FM Toolbar is available during the loading of File Manager!
  306.  
  307. Now, if you see that FM Toolbar is not what you need, just run
  308. SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Deactivate' button. Your system will
  309. forget all about FM Toolbar!
  310.  
  311. On the other hand, if you want to give the program a longer try
  312. and wish to install it onto your hard disk or network drive,
  313. choose the 'Install' button when SETUP.EXE prompts you. Please see
  314. the next section for more information.
  315.  
  316. 2.1.2. Installing on a hard disk or network drive
  317. -------------------------------------------------
  318.  
  319. If you have already copied all the files from the FM Toolbar
  320. package onto your hard disk (for instance, you have extracted the
  321. files from an archive), run SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Activate'
  322. button.
  323.  
  324. If you don't have the FM Toolbar files on the hard disk, choose
  325. 'Install' button instead. Then, enter the path to the directory
  326. where you want FM Toolbar to be installed. In this case, SETUP.EXE
  327. will copy all the files to the new location and then activate
  328. them. In addition, you will be prompted to create a separate
  329. program group for FM Toolbar. It's not essential to have such a
  330. group, but it may be convenient. In any case, the last word is
  331. yours!
  332.  
  333. 2.1.3. Uninstalling FM Toolbar
  334. -----------------------------
  335.  
  336. To prevent File Manager from loading and using FM Toolbar, run
  337. SETUP.EXE and choose the 'Deactivate' button. If you decide to
  338. start using FM Toolbar later on, run SETUP.EXE and choose
  339. 'Activate'.
  340.  
  341. Otherwise, to completely remove FM Toolbar from your system,
  342. deactivate it with the SETUP.EXE utility (see above) and remove
  343. all the files from directory on your hard disk or network drive
  344. where you have installed FM Toolbar. In addition, delete program
  345. group 'FMToolbar' from the Program Manager, if your created it
  346. during installation.
  347.  
  348. 2.2. Registering your copy of FM Toolbar
  349. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  350. Sometimes, FM Toolbar displays a registration reminder, and the
  351. "About FM Toolbar" screen reads 'Unregistered copy'. If you have
  352. registered FM Toolbar and obtained your personal Registration Code
  353. from us, you may use it to prevent the registration reminder from
  354. being displayed and enter your name in the 'About FM Toolbar'
  355. screen. Choose 'Register' from the 'Toolbar' submenu of File
  356. Manager and when a dialog box pops up, enter your name (exactly as
  357. it appears in your Registration Acknowledgment) and the
  358. Registration Code.
  359.  
  360. Be sure to enter your name EXACTLY as it's written in the
  361. Registration Acknowledgment, including all the spaces, punctuation,
  362. and entering letters in proper case (upper or lower). If you wish
  363. your name to be spelled differently, please let us know and we'll
  364. assign a new registration code.
  365.  
  366. 2.3. Manual installation/deinstallation
  367. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  368. If the automatic installation fails for any reason, you may install
  369. FM Toolbar manually as follows:
  370.  
  371. 1. Create a directory for FM Toolbar on your hard disk, say
  372.    C:\TOOLBAR, and copy all the files from the FM Toolbar
  373.    installation disk into that directory. If you obtained the FM
  374.    Toolbar files compressed in an archive, extract all the files
  375.    from it.
  376.  
  377. 2. Close File Manager.
  378.  
  379. 3. Open file WINFILE.INI for editing (using Notepad or any other
  380.    text editor). This file is located in the WINDOWS directory on
  381.    your hard disk (or the directory you specified when installing
  382.    Windows). Please note: the file you need is WINFILE.INI, *not*
  383.    WIN.INI.
  384.  
  385.    Find the section [AddOns] in this file and enter the following
  386.    string right after the string [AddOns]:
  387.  
  388.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  389.  
  390.    (or specify the directory you copied FM Toolbar's files into,
  391.    if other than TOOLBAR).
  392.  
  393.    The resulting portion of the WINFILE.INI should look like
  394.    this:
  395.  
  396.         ...
  397.         [AddOns]
  398.         FM Toolbar=C:\TOOLBAR\FMTB.DLL
  399.         ...
  400.  
  401.    (... means other lines of the file). Save the file.
  402.  
  403. 4. Run File Manager.
  404.  
  405. If the installation has been completed successfully, you should
  406. see a new menu item, Toolbar, among the other items of the File
  407. Manager's main menu. If you cannot see the Toolbar item in the
  408. main menu of File Manager, an error has occurred. Please verify
  409. that you have done all the steps above, and, in particular, have
  410. specified the correct path in the [AddOns] section of the
  411. WINFILE.INI file. Also, make sure that the files have not been
  412. corrupted when they were copied onto your hard disk (Each file
  413. should be the same size as each file on the installation diskette)
  414.  
  415. To manually uninstall FM Toolbar:
  416.  
  417. 1. Close File Manager and remove the line 'FM Toolbar=...' from
  418.    the WINFILE.INI file (using Notepad, for example). After that,
  419.    when you restart File Manager, FM Toolbar will not be loaded.
  420.    If you decide later to start using FM Toolbar again, type the
  421.    string 'FM Toolbar=...', specifying the complete DOS path to
  422.    the FMTB.DLL file, in the [AddOn] section of the WINFILE.INI
  423.    file.
  424.  
  425. The following steps should be completed only if you wish to
  426. remove the FM Toolbar from your system permanently:
  427.  
  428. 2. Delete all the files from the directory on your hard disk where
  429.    you installed FM Toolbar;
  430.  
  431. 3. Delete program group 'FMToolbar' in the Program Manager window,
  432.    if there is one.
  433.
